The royal household uses standard plates from either of the first two series having numbers from 1 to probably 50.

(e)     Since 2000 dealer plates have been purple on reflective white with, to the left of the vertical dividing line, the Arabic number over the western number.   To the right of the line is الشارقة (“Sharjah”) over تجارية (“commercial”) separated by a horizontal dividing line.
Since 2007, these plates have been reserved for used car dealers and new car dealers have similar plates in black on white.

(f)      For handicapped drivers a very small number of otherwise normal private plates exist with a red wheelchair symbol instead of the series number.   Sharjah is the only emirate to have such plates.

(g)     Since April 2005, national police vehicles have had plates from the unified police series, with serials 28nnn, see U.A.E. paragraph (e).
Local police vehicles have plates with SHARJAH POLICE, the seven stars and falcon emblem of the U.A.E. and (“Sharjah Police”) at the top in white on blue.   The bottom of the plate has a western number in blue on white. Numbers 1 to 5 are reserved for the vehicles used for carrying VIPs and also have on the bottom line, in blue on white, above (“protocol and hospitality”).
Police motorcycles have normal police plates but in a smaller size and with only two digits.

FORMER SERIES

(p)     From 1986 to 2008 private vehicles had plates with الشارقة over SHJ on a central section with the western number to the left and the Arabic number to the right with no vertical dividers.   Two line plates measuring 320×165 mm had a vertical divider, from 2000, with the Arabic number above the western equivalent to the right and الشارقة over SHJ. to the left.   Similar plates but with the centre or left panel having an orange background indicated numbers in the range 100000 to 199999.   The orange colour faded very badly and could look yellow.   Plates with the number 100000 existed in both series.   In May 2006 a pair of intertwined wavy lines, lightly printed in the reflective sheeting, was introduced across the middle of the plate.
The royal household used standard plates from either of these two series having numbers from 1 to probably 50.
For handicapped drivers a very small number of standard black on white plates existed with a red wheelchair symbol between الشارقة and SHJ.
